Earlier, type-2 diabetes was a prevalent disease found in adults, but with the increased intake of junk foods and sedentary lifestyle of children, the number of obese and overweight children being affected by type-2 diabetes is growing rapidly. You can do many things to prevent and manage the occurrence of type-2 diabetes in your children. Motivate them to exercise regularly and give them a healthy diet to maintain a normal weight. If diet and exercise don’t work for your child, insulin treatment may be needed.

Risk factors-

Weight
Being overweight, your child is more likely to develop type-2 diabetes and other related diseases. Weight is the most significant risk factor for developing this chronic disease, the more fatty tissues your child has, the more resistant their bodies become to insulin.

Inactivity
The less active your child is, the more weight he will gain. It becomes hard to control weight gain in case of inactivity. And being overweight leads to type-2 diabetes.

Family History
If the child’s parent or sibling has type-2 diabetes, then the risk of developing type-2 diabetes in the child also, increases.

Gestational Diabetes
If the mother has gestational diabetes during pregnancy, then the child’s risk of developing type-2 diabetes increases.
