Program Aim

This program aims to enhance the delivery of metabolic surgery through well-maintained standards based on an international bariatric training program recommendation required by a fellow to become an expert of Bariatric Metabolic Surgery.

▲ Eligibility
  • Post MS or DNB General surgery with 5 years’ experience in general surgery
  • Post MS and or DNB Candidate with less than 5 years’ experience had a sufficient skill in basic and intermediate laparoscopic surgery.
  • Post MCh GI surgery
  • For international fellows completion of post graduation training in GS

  • Recommend the most suitable surgical approach and consult the patient regarding the advantages and disadvantages of the allocated procedure.
  • Assessment of the post-operative bariatric patient by participating in the ward round and in the post op outpatient evaluation.
  • Management decisions for early and late complications of Bariatric Surgery
▼ Technical Skills (surgical operation)
  • In order to meet the designation of comprehensive training, fellows must be exposed to more than one type of weight loss operation and participate in at least 100 weight loss operations
  • The fellow should have assumed the role of primary surgeon in at least 50 cases by having performed the key components of the operation according to planned steps.
  • The fellow must have performed autonomously 20 LSG and 10 RYGB surgeries in the Minimum 50 cases of stapling/anastomotic operations. .
  • Assisting In at least 10 revision procedures and bariatric specific emergency procedures (bowel obstruction, leak and internal herniation).
  • Fellows should also have an exposure to endoscopy and endoscopic related complication management such as stent insertion.
  • Fellows should have exposure to SILS and Robotic approaches in Bariatric Metabolic Surgery.
▲ Logbook (per 12 months)

Logbook should be maintained during the training period and will be reviewed at the end of fellowship program for final evaluation.

▲ Fellowship
  • Mohak Bariatric and Robotic Surgery Center will issue a fellowship certificate after successful completion of the course and examination. Mohak will provide lodging, room and board during the fellowship.
  • Fellowship Program Fees is Rs. 10 lacs (~$15600 USD).

▼ Program Special Features

Clinical research activity is encouraged and enhanced with access to extensive clinical database records. There are many clinical research projects that will involve the fellows, which focus on outcome and techniques for minimally invasive bariatric metabolic surgery. With an electronic medical record system, the fellow will have access to the data on more than seven thousand patients that were entered prospectively.
